Nigeria reverts to old national anthem as Tinubu assents to bill

President Bola Tinubu has signed the National Anthem Bill 2024 into law.

The bill seeks to reinstate the old anthem, “Nigeria, We Hail Thee.”

This was disclosed by the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, during the joint plenary that Tinubu attended on Wednesday [today].

The final assent to the passage of the bill has confined to history the national anthem currently in use “Arise O Compatriots.”

The bill was rapidly cleared by both the Senate and the House of Representatives.

The old anthem, “Nigeria, we hail thee”, was composed when Nigeria gained independence on October 1, 1960; while the outgone national anthem came to force in 1978.
