Excavation equipment, including bulldozers, have been observed moving towards the Nasarawa Palace, the current residence of the deposed 15th Emir of Kano State, Aminu Ado Bayero.
This development follows Friday’s [today] action by security forces to block all entrances to the mini palace, reportedly to prevent potential unrest during the planned demolition.
The Governor Abba Yusuf administration had directed law enforcement agents to remove Aminu Ado from the Nasarawa Palace, where, according to the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Isah Dederi, the 15th emir has been “trespassing.”
Officials claim the palace is slated for demolition to facilitate reconstruction and renovation.
On Thursday, Dederi, accompanied by Secretary to the State Government Baffa Bichi, announced the decision during a Press conference at the Government House.
Dederi claimed that Bayero was trespassing on government property and that the State Commissioner of Police has been instructed to remove him.
The Commissioner also emphasized that Muhammadu Sanusi II remains the 16th Emir of Kano.
He urged citizens to maintain peace, citing a recent court order that he claims validated the state government’s dissolution of the five emirates.
This situation unfolds amidst ongoing controversy surrounding the emirate’s leadership and structure in Kano State.
