LASU receives West Africa’s Best University Award for SDG Achievement

The West Africa Youth Summit on Wednesday named the Lagos State University (LASU), the best institution for the actualisation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in West Africa.

The recognition was bestowed on LASU at the Youth Summit held at the University’s main campus, in acknowledgement of it’s stride towards the actualisation of the 17-point SDG plan aimed at enhancing the well-being of people and the planet by 2030.

Also at the Summit, the university’s vice chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello was presented with the Nelson Mandela Leadership Award of Excellence, in recognition of her innovative contributions to Nigeria’s Entertainment Industry.

In his remark, the Chairman of the West Africa Youth Fellowship and ECOWAS Youth Ambassador, Amb. Emmanuel Agida commended LASU for its groundbreaking initiatives of being the first institution to establish a Centre for SDG and also the first to create a SDG Youth Club to engage and mobilize youth participation in the pursuit of the SDGs.

He encouraged other institutions to emulate LASU by engaging students in similar advocacy efforts.

The Youth Summit, hosted at LASU attracted prominent Nigerians including the Minister for Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman and the Minister of State for Water Resources and Sanitation, Bello Goronyo. The university’s management, staff, and students from various secondary schools in the state also attended
as delegates, making it a memorable occasion.
