A 47-year-old teacher, Ojo Ezekiel, has been convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Ogun State High Court for raping a seven-year-old girl.
According to reports, Ezekiel was first arraigned on July 1, 2022.
Before his arrest, he taught at a secondary school. And although the child was in primary school, it was said that both schools were located in the same premises.
During his trial, the prosecuting counsel, Mr. Olusegun Olaotan, told the court that the survivor’s mother had observed that something was wrong with her seven-year-old daughter’s private parts while bathing her.
When she asked her, the child admitted that the defendant had sexually abused her four times in school.
“While giving her evidence in court, the second prosecution witness (PW2), who is the survivor, said that the defendant used to pull aside her pant before inserting his finger into her vagina.
“Evidence of the third prosecution witness (PW3) (medical doctor) corroborates that of the second prosecution witness. She testified that in the course of examining the (PW2), she discovered that the hymen of the PW2 was not intact. it was opened by 2cm,” Olaotan stated.
He also stated that the defendant used to lure the girl into his car after school hours and insert his fingers into her vagina. Thereafter, he would warn her never to tell anyone or else she would be flogged.
After listening to the prosecution witnesses and considering the evidences, Justice Abiodun Akinyemi convicted the defendant, Ojo Ezekiel, of rape and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
