Man defrauds 3 of N2m over Vietnam tourist visa procurement

A 36-year-old man, Mohammed Lawal, was on Friday arraigned before an Iyaganku Chief Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, over alleged N2 million visa fraud.

Lawal, whose address was not provided, is facing alleged charge of obtaining money under false pretence, to which he pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp. Akeem Akinloye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in June 2023, in Ibadan.

Akinloye alleged that the defendant fraudulently contracted one travel agent, Adenike Aniso, to procure Vietnam tourist visas worth N2.1 million for three of his clients.

Akinloye said the defendant refused to pay for the visas after procurement.

He said the offence contravened Section 419 of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olabisi Ogunkanmi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

Ogunkanmi, thereafter, adjourned the case until Nov. 3, for hearing. (NAN)
