Man jailed for stealing phone from Ogun mosque

An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Thursday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Ridwan Akintoye, to three months’ imprisonment for stealing a Techno phone from the mosque.

Akintoye, who resides in Federal Housing Estate, Olomore in Abeokuta, pleaded guilty two counts of felony and theft.

The Magistrate, Mrs. O.O Odumosun, convicted the defendant following his plea of guilty to the offence..

Odumosun gave the convict an option to serve three weeks’ community service in the Adigbe police station.

Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Olakunle Shonibare, told the court that Akintoye committed the offence on March 26 at about, 6 a.m at Ita Iyalode Central Mosque in Abeokuta.

He further explained that the convict came to the mosques pretending to be part of the early morning prayer congregation.

Shonibare also said while people were observing their prayers, he went to the female section pretending to plug his phone to charge and stole a Techno Spark phone already charging, worth N60,000.

The prosecutor told the court that the convict was a serial thief.

According to him, the offence contravenes the provisions of sections 415, 388 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code, Vol. 1, Laws of Ogun, 2006. (NAN)
