Mini bus driver dies in accident involving truck on Otedola Bridge

A road accident involving a moving truck and a mini bus popularly known as Korope, has claimed one life.

The accident happened near the Lagos State Secretariat inward Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Lagos.

According to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the incident, caused by brake failure due to excessive speeding, resulted in the death of the mini bus driver.

LASTMA, in a swift response, successfully rescued all other passengers from the mini bus wreckage unhurt.

However, the driver, who was trapped in the mangled vehicle, was recovered lifeless despite extensive efforts by LASTMA officers, LASAMBUS personnel, and FRSC officials. The deceased’s body was later handed over to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Security operatives from the Alausa Police Division were also on-site to provide support and ensure order during the rescue operations.

Reacting to the incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, emphasized the critical need for strict adherence to traffic rules, particularly regarding speeding and vehicle maintenance

“This incident is a painful reminder of the dangers of reckless driving. We urge all road users to prioritize safety and observe all traffic regulations to prevent such tragedies,” he said.

LASTMA extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and reaffirmed its commitment to promoting road safety and preventing avoidable accidents on Lagos roads.
