Many people on social media have expressed their opinion about the decision of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria’s decision to sanction the KFC outlet at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.
Trouble started after Debola, a son of ex-Governor Gbenga Daniel, who lives with disability and uses a wheelchair, tweeted his complaints about the discriminations meted to him by the American franchise.
In a swift reaction, FAAN announced the sanctions and also ordered the eatery to tender public apologies to its aggrieved customer as contained in this Press release; as well as people’s reactions:
I do not condone what kfc did. It must not be acceptable in our society. But shutting kfc down because of the incident is a bit OTT. If it happened to an ordinary man’s son, would u av shut it down ? But because it happened to Gbenga Daniel’s son, u had to shut it down !

Nice, also I’ll like if you can ban those begging by the airport staff. It’s becoming too much 😂

Thank you and please fix the lift!

If it were a nobody involved, I can bet that you guys wouldn’t be this swift to act. This is just pure hypocrisy. Shame

MMIA needs to be shutdown too because of the non-functional elevator.

Why’s there no federal law protecting persons with disability? Why’s a federal government agency quoting a state law for something that happened on a FG property? I’m confused, lawyers please help.

FAAN has done this but there are a lot of public facilities that do not have consideration for people with reduced mobility. @ServicomOffice will need to do a lot for public offices and this is a sad truth. And why are the elevators out for months at the airport @FAAN_Official ?

Your statement should be we are reviewing all our disability access policies across all airports, just use that to address it and shine rather than publicly shutting down one outlet in a show of power, the most important thing is that it should happen to someone else

Many people live with disability, but no sub-section had been quoted for them until it involves an influential person.
In Nigeria, just make money, otherwise, according to Apostle Joshua Selman, life will be miserably hard.

Many tweeted their commendations:
…policy makers to non-inclusion of disabled facilities in nearly all our public buildings in Nigeria. This fight you took on is a little victory on behalf of the over 27million disabled in Nigeria. Even though it might look little but we will always remember you ….

Thanks for this important update. We salute the management of FAAN and expressed satisfaction at the way the matter was handled. However let such regulatory efficiency continued.

So there are still Nigerian public officials who know their job and are willing to perform as needed? Well done. Thank you for providing “some” hope.
