The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Monday, October 2nd as a public holiday to in commemoration of Nigeria’s October 1st Independence Day which falls on a Sunday.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo and signed by the office’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Oluwatoyin Akinlade.
While asserting that the current federal government will ensure a better Nigeria for all citizens as a befitting tribute to our heroes past through its Renewed Hope mantra; the Minister admitted that the pressing socio-economic hardship is global and does not exclude Nigeria.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo in the stated reaffirmed the government’s commitment remains steady in tackling the issues facing the country’s citizens.
He said: “It is today a known fact that difficult socioeconomic and security challenges are global, and Nigeria is not isolated. Our warm welcoming spirit and love, as well as our unbounded human capital and the richness of our land, makes Nigeria unarguably the leading black nation in the world being Africa’s pride and a beacon of hope.
The Minister wish all Nigerian citizens a memorable independence celebration noting that the country’s founding fathers, in spite of the differences in faith, tribe, and tongue, solidly united for Nigeria’s freedom which we all enjoy till date.
