An X [formerly Twitter] user, Temitope Iya Shukudi, with X handle @_MumJeans, has narrated how her 16-year-old son was arrested by the Police and clamped into Police cell.
The distraught mother alleged that her underage son wasn’t detained behind the counter in the Police Stattion but the boy was rather imprisoned alongside hardened, older detainees.
In a series of tweets, she says, “My 16-year-old son is in Sagamu visiting with his uncle. Yesterday (Monday), he went out to buy fuel and was nowhere to be seen.
“Hours later, my brother started to panic. He told my older brother over the phone (bcos they couldn’t tell me) and he suggested he checks the [Police] station first.
“Lo and behold, there he was, in the cell, a 16-year-old! He wasn’t behind the counter, he was in an actual cell and they were threatening to either k*ll him or send him to prison if he didn’t confess to being a Yahoo boy, cos he has an iPhone.
“The actual criminals roam free. I am really tired!
She challenged the Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, Prince Olumuyiwa Adejobi, asking, “@PoliceNG@Princemoye1 why did the useless animals you represent threaten to m*rder my 16-year-old son because he had an iPhone?
“Is that the instruction they were given, to label young boys fraudsters and k*ll them because of iPhones?
When asked which of the Police Stations in Sagamu, Ogun State, detained her underage son, she responded, “My brother, I don’t know which of the stations. I am not in Sagamu and it didn’t occur to me to ask since he was already out by the time I was informed.”
