NAFDAC destroys N18m expired drugs in Katsina

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in Katsina says it has recently destroyed expired drugs worth over N18 million seized in the state.

The NAFDAC Coordinator in the state, Mr. Musa Momodu, disclosed this to newsmen on the sideline of a one-day workshop for its stakeholders in Katsina on Thursday.

According to the NAFDAC’s state coordinator, the expired drugs were recently destroyed in Kano State by their North-West Zonal Office.

He explained that some of the expired drugs weighing about 15 metric tonnes were willingly submitted by the owners, while some were seized.

Momodu added that NAFDAC in Katsina was doing very well as people in town can testify, especially the consumers and other stakeholders.

He said, “The workshop was organised because we have discovered that there is a gap in knowledge between the stakeholders and what NAFDAC really requires of them.

“The main essence is to continue reminding ourselves what’s required of us as an agency, and also our stakeholders in different fields, especially the bakers, patent medicine vendors and pure water people.”
