Navy bans unauthorised uniforms use

The Nigerian Navy has warned members of the public against the use of its uniforms, accoutrements and insignia without authorisation.

The warning is contained in a statement by the Director of Naval Information, Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, on Friday in Abuja.

Adams-Aliu said it had come to the attention of the navy that some individuals, who are not personnel of the service, wore naval uniforms as well as used its accoutrements and insignia indiscriminately.

According to him, it has become necessary to remind the general public that the unauthorised use of the Nigerian navy uniform is an offence under Nigerian laws, specifically, Chapter 12 section 110 (1) and (2) of the Criminal Code.

He said that the law stated that, “any person who is not serving in any of the Armed Forces of Nigeria and wears the uniform or any part of the uniform of such forces, or any dress having the appearance, is guilty of an offence.
