A woman, yet to be identified but allegedly notorious for exploiting and trafficking young girls from Warri to Ghana for prostitution, has been apprehended by vigilant individuals in the Warri community.
The arrest followed a report from an eyewitness who detailed the woman’s attempt to manipulate two young salesgirls into travelling with her.
Last week, the woman reportedly visited a local shop, where she employed persuasive tactics to convince the two salesgirls who resided with the shop owner’s mother, to accompany her to Ghana for work.
Unbeknownst to the trafficker, reports say, the shop owner had been discreetly monitoring their conversations as they, along with the woman, began planning their trip to Ghana through phone communication.
After gathering enough evidence, the shop owner reportedly mobilized members of the community to apprehend the woman and the girls at Effurun roundabout on Friday morning, just before they embarked on their journey to Ghana for what many believed would be for illegal activities such as commercial sex work and associated vices.
Upon capture, the woman reportedly admitted to her crimes and had allegedly confessed that she had been involved in transporting young girls from the town to sell them into prostitution in Ghana.
