Social media users have criticized the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for displaying faces of the young men described as suspected internet fraudsters arrested at the residence of a musician, John Njeng Njeng, also known as Skales.
They condemned the Commission for parading the suspects on social media while investigation is ongoing and when they have not been found guilty by a court of law.
Operatives of the Lagos Command of the EFCC had on Tuesday posted on its X account that it has arrested two suspected internet fraudsters at House F10, Victoria Crest 4, Lekki, Lagos.
The suspects, Udemba Chukwuemeka a.k.a Jody and Jamal Jamiu Onasola a.k.a. Jamal were arrested at the residence of a musician, Skales.
According to EFCC, the duo, suspected of being involved in dating scam, described Njeng as their ‘mentor’.
The statement further revealed that Chukwuemeka has been in Njeng’s residence for two years, while Onasola has only stayed there for few months.
It added that the duo will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
Reactions have however greeted the action of EFCC. Below are some of the reactions:
Rinu Oduala @SavvyRinu: First, you deny breaking into his home. Lied to the entire populace.
Then, you parade people who may be innocent for all we know without any court order and refer to them as ‘suspected fraudsters’ all to get the media on your side? Isn’t this madness?
MADE iN LAGOS @Roodie77: People you claimed are suspects and you’re displaying their faces ! Are you a court of law ? Or armed robbers in red robes.
Mazi Nzeako @Ikepicano: You arrest people and call them suspects while displaying your images only to go back and start your investigation… is that the right mode of operation?what if after your investigating they are innocent how do you clean up this bad image of these people.
The Young Nation @Selom Sarl: Drug barron is a president, EFCC do nothing but if nah to follow those small yahoo yahoo dem come be lion 🦁
@Victor Michael5: You said skales is their “mentor”.. So why didn’t you arrest skales himself then? You bunch of liars.. you broke into his house at the wee hours of the night, he no go better for Unah 🖐️🖐️🖐️
@Olorogun Ernest: But why display their pictures when they’re still mere suspects?
The same EFCC denied making any arrest in Skales home.
A few hours after, EFCC announces breaking into Skales home. Was there a search or arrest warrant?
Why is Nigeria so lawless & wreckless?
