Nigerians have taken to social media to express their opinion about the N70,000 minimum wage approved by the President Bola-Tinubu-led Federal Government.
After an attenuated discussions, meetings and negotiations that dragged on for months, the FG and organised labour on Thursday reached an agreement on N70,000 as Nigeria’s new minimum wage.
This was announced by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, at the end of the meeting with Labour at the State House.
While many Nigerians expressed surprise that Labour could accept what many described as “the price of a a bag of rice,” others say it should have been N100,000 at least; while some government apologists says it is the best thing to happen to Nigerian workers, even as others caution that some state government’s might be unable to pay.

This isn’t a good news if we have to be honest with ourselves. N70,000 minimum wage can’t beat the current economic situation. Just expect increase in price of foods, transportation and all very soon.

The least should have been 100k imo but who am I kidding? Even with this, many won’t be able to pay smh

And government apologists:
Honestly, FG and State governors can’t afford that. Nigeria is too poor. Our mind should be fixated on reducing cost of food and dollar rates not increasing minimum wage.
First thing first, reduce the allowances paid to politician.
Else..Inflation will hit harder and most states…— Prophessor (@theProphessor_X) July 18, 2024
