The lifting of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, by the National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL) from the Dangote Refinery has commenced.
Over the weekend, more than 100 NNPCL trucks arrived at the refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, marking the loading of the first batch of petrol.
A video shared on the verified X account of the Dangote Group on Sunday confirmed the start of the operation.
This development follows an announcement made on Friday in Abuja by Zacch Adedeji, Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and member of the Presidential Committee on the Sale of Crude Oil and Refined Products. He stated that the NNPCL remains the exclusive buyer of petrol from the Dangote refinery.
Adedeji also noted that while the NNPCL would manage petrol distribution, other products like diesel are available for purchase by interested off-takers. He further revealed that, starting October 1, the NNPCL will pay for crude oil from the refinery in Naira.
Despite the commencement of petrol lifting, there is still uncertainty surrounding potential changes in petrol pump prices. Neither the Dangote refinery nor the NNPCL has provided details on the pricing of the newly lifted petrol, leaving market observers and consumers awaiting further updates.
