NPHCDA to support Enugu PHC With N254m -Executive Director

The National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) has allocated N254 million from the Basic Health Care Provision Fund to support Enugu state governments in revitalizing healthcare facilities.

This fund is part of the agency’s efforts to improve access to primary healthcare services, especially in rural areas.

The Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) was established under the National Health Act to provide catalytic funding for primary healthcare.

The fund aims to achieve universal health coverage by supporting the operational costs of primary healthcare centers, providing essential drugs and vaccines, and strengthening the national health system.

In addition to the N254 million allocation, the NPHCDA has previously disbursed funds to various states, including Kaduna, Kano, and Niger, to support their primary healthcare initiatives. These efforts demonstrate the agency’s commitment to improving healthcare outcomes across Nigeria.

The Executive Director of NPHCDA, Dr. Muyi Aina who announced the support on Friday evening when he led top management of the agency on a courtesy visit to the governor assures that the state will fully benefit from the ongoing revitalisation of the Primary Healthcare Centres across the country by the federal government.

Aina who said that they have completed the assessment of 253 facilities in Enugu state, commended Governor Peter Mbah-led administration for his giant strides in the healthcare space, describing him as the first governor to implement some of the policies of the federal government in the health sector.

Extolling the governor for his move to recruit 450 healthcare workers in the state, NPHCDA Boss disclosed that he is the only governor in Nigeria that is very prompt in releasing the counterpart fund as and when due.

He promised that the state will fully benefit from the ongoing revitalisation of the Primary Healthcare Centres across the country by the federal government.

He said more PHC facilities in Enugu will benefit from the agency’s increased allocation called “Direct Facility Financing, as well as retraining of 3,063 health workers from Enugu State.”

Responding, the host, Governor Mbah said his administration is planning to build more type two primary healthcare centres across the state, apart from the 260 earlier awarded by the administration.

He expressed the readiness of his administration to sustain the partnership with the federal agency.

Commending the federal government for its interventions in the primary healthcare space in the state, Mbah said his administration has put modalities in place to ensure universal health coverage.

The governor who revealed his administration’s desire to institutionalise the primary healthcare, said the state government can no longer condone the incidence of mother and child mortality as well as child killer diseases.
