Ohanaeze opens condolence register for Iwuanyanwu

The National Executive Council of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, on Tuesday, opened a condolence register to mourn the passing of its President General, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

Iwuanyanwu, who served as the 11th President-General from April 30, 2023, following the demise of George Obiozor in December 2022, passed away at the age of 82.

The NEC held an emergency meeting at the organisation’s national secretariat in Enugu, where Secretary General, Ambassador Okey Emuchay lamented the loss.

He said that it comes barely two years after the organisation bid farewell to Obiozor.

Iwuanyanwu’s passing was confirmed by his son, Jide, who stated that he died in Abuja after a brief illness on July 25.

Emuchay described Iwuanyanwu as a rare human being, who had wonderful ideas and visions for the Igbo nation and for Nigeria.

He explained that a central burial committee will be established very soon to give him a befitting burial.

“All activities especially, the Igbo Day Celebration of 2024 scheduled to hold on the 29th of September 2024 in Imo State, we will be skippes in respect and honour of the departed president General,” he said.

Speaking further, he said “We want to assure that the ship of Ohanaeze is in safe hands, collectively as NEC, we want to give assurance that we shall match on from where he stopped.”

The Secretary General, Emuchay, however, called on all state secretariats of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, as well as chapters in Nigeria and abroad, to open condolence books in honour of the late President General, Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.

This will provide an opportunity for individuals to pay their respects, share their thoughts, and offer prayers for the departed leader.

By opening these condolence books, Ohanaeze Ndigbo aims to create a collective space for mourning and remembrance, allowing people to come together and express their condolences.
