‘Oppenheimer’ leads as Oscars announces 2024 nominations

The Academy Awards, now officially known as the Oscars, has announced its 2024 list of nominees.

The Christopher Nolan film ‘Oppenheimer’ had a strong showing, securing top spot among contenders with 13 nominations; followed closely by the fantasy film ‘Poor Things’ featuring Emma Stone with 11 nominations; while the summer blockbuster ‘Barbie’ got eight nominations.

Oscars are awards for artistic and technical merit in the film industry. They are presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences located in Beverly Hills, California, United States in recognition of excellence in cinematic achievements as assessed by the Academy’s voting membership.

It is the oldest worldwide entertainment awards ceremony and usually have its major award categories presented during a televised Hollywood ceremony typically held in February or March.

The 2024 Oscars will be held on March 10 at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles.
