Our Law programmes’ accreditation still intact -KWASU

The management of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete in Ilorin, on Saturday said its two undergraduate Law programmes — Common Law and Islamic Law — are still fully accredited.

The institution’s Registrar, Dr. Kikelomo Salle, said in a statement that the programmes were fully accredited by both the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Council of Legal Education (CLE).

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the statement was in reaction to insinuations in some quarters that the CLE has suspended admission of students into KWASU’s Law programmes.

There were claims that the suspension was due to the institution’s act of admitting and graduating Law students without obtaining the necessary accreditation from the Council.

The Registrar however said the KWASU’s Law programmes received NUC’s approval for commencement in the 2018/2019 academic year and full accreditation for the programmes was secured in 2021.

”The University also secured accreditation from the Council of Legal Education in 2021.

”Since securing the Council’s accreditation in 2021, KWASU has strictly abided by the admission quota of 50 students in the 2021/2022, 2022/2023, 2023/2024 and the current 2024/2025 sessions.

”KWASU holds the Council of Legal Education in very high esteem, especially in its commitment to upholding the standard of legal education.

”It has, thus, been very mindful of the provisions of the accreditation granted to the university,” Salle said.(NAN)
