The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has addressed the AI-generated image circulating on social media, which depicted him as an alhaji.
According to Church Times Nigeria on Saturday, Adeboye spoke during the first Holy Ghost Night of the new year, held in the early hours of Saturday, January 4.
Late December last year, there were viral images which trended online depicting the RCCG pastor as a Muslim – clothed in Islamic garments – and as being in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
A male figure who completes Hajj rituals on an holy pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia is called an Alhaji while the female pilgrim is called Alhaja.
Adeboye also addressed the growing presence of mockers, predicting that many would not survive the year.
However, he emphasised that God does not desire the death of sinners.
With a wry smile, he acknowledged the AI-generated image of him as an alhaji, remarking, “I’m sure many of you saw that picture showing me as an alhaji.”
Multiple media reported the incident but Factcheckhub reported that an X user, @Sarkideyforyou, shared an image of Adeboye standing in front of the Kaabah in Mecca, Saudi Arabia—a religious site for Muslims.
The post, which was accompanied by the caption, “Pastor Adeboye may Allah guide you to the right path,” garnered significant attention, with over 3.8 million views, 1,500 reposts, 1,800 comments, and 4,000 likes by December 22, 2024.
