Policen at the Delta State Command say they have rescued a kidnapped victim and apprehended armed suspects.
The operation was led by Ekpan Divisional Police Officer, CSP Aliyu Shaba, under the guidance of the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass.
The incident occurred on December 30, 2023, at about 19:30hrs, when a 23-year-old male (identity withheld) parked his Black GLK 350 Benz SUV along Jakpa Road in Warri, leaving his brother inside the vehicle as he attended to other activities.
Three armed assailants reportedly approached the vehicle and forcefully drove it to an unknown destination, with the brother of the driver still inside.
Upon receiving this distressing information, the surveillance team attached to Ekpan Police Division swung into action.
The team proceeded to a bush at Ekakpamre, Ughelli-South LGA, where a serious gun duel reportedly ensued upon their sighting by the kidnappers.
During the exchange of gunfire, two of the kidnappers reportedly sustained fatal injuries, while one managed to escape with gunshot wounds.
The kidnapped victim was, however, rescued unharmed.
Three firearms were recovered, comprising two single-barrel and one double-barrel guns, along with two expended cartridges. The black GLK 350 Benz SUV was also successfully recovered.
The two fatally injured suspects were promptly transported to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead by the attending doctor.
“Ongoing efforts are being made to apprehend the escaped suspect who sustained gunshot injuries during the operation,” Police said.
