An unnamed officer believed to be responsible for the murder of an Abuja resident, Onyebuchi Anene, has been detained by the Police Command in the Federal Capital Territory.
Anene, a resident of Kubwa in Bwari Local Council of Abuja, was allegedly shot dead by a Police officer on Wednesday at Byazhin area at around 9.45pm.
In an account of the incident, sources said Anene met his death in the hands of the policemen after the policemen allegedly had a quarrel with an Okada rider and the passenger, but it was eventually resolved.
“Afterwards, the rider and the passenger continued their journey and Anene was approaching the estate he resided in when some policemen accosted him and insisted on taking him to the station.
“The ensuing arguments culminated in one of the officers pulling the trigger, killing Anene as a result,” the source alleged.
Commenting on the issue, the Police Public Relations Officer in the FCT, SP Josephine Adeh, said the Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, has ordered an investigation into the incident, while the officer that pulled the trigger is in custody.
Adeh also said that the shooting was not a willful act but an accidental discharge.
