Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, the 82-year-old President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2024.
Born in September 1942, he was unanimously elected to lead the apex Igbo organization on April 20, 2023, following the death of his predecessor, Prof. George Obiozor.
According to a family source, Chief Iwuanyanwu died in Abuja, Federal Capital Territory.
Sadly, he becomes the second consecutive President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo to die in office, after Prof. Obiozor also passed away while serving.
Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu is a prominent Nigerian businessman, politician, and philanthropist known for his significant contributions to various sectors, particularly in the Igbo community and beyond.
He was the Publisher of the Champion Newspapers. He has been active in multiple business ventures, including real estate, manufacturing, and hospitality.
In addition to his business accomplishments, Chief Iwuanyanwu has been involved in politics and has held various leadership positions within political parties.
He is also known for his philanthropic initiatives, supporting education, healthcare, and community development projects.
Late Iwuanyanwu was former Director General Federal Road Maintenance Agency Nigeria (FEMRA). He was the pro-Chancellor Federal University of Calabar.
The National Publicity Secretary of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Dr Alex Ogbonnia, when contacted for confirmation, said “we are waiting for official confirmation from the family.”
