Remi Tinubu hosts Super Falcons at Presidential Villa

First Lady of Nigeria, Oluremi Tinubu, has received members of the Super Falcons at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The first lady hosted the team on Monday, a week after their ouster from the ongoing 2023 Women’s World Cup hosted by Australia and New Zealand.

The Falcons were dumped out of the tournament following a 4-2 loss on penalties to the Lionesses.

Nigeria performed spiritedly against the European champions, forcing the game into extra time and a penalty shootout after a goalless draw.

Shortly after the loss, Oluremi had praised the Nigerian women’s team for showing they were no pushovers. She added that England’s triumph “was simply luck”.

The first lady, who watched the game alongside Nana Shettima, wife of the vice president; and Ekaette Akpabio, wife of the Senate president, promised to receive the Falcons “as true heroes on their return home”.

Her hosting of the Falcons comes on the heels of her reception of Nigeria’s D’Tigress following their fourth consecutive women’s Afro basketball title.
