Sanwo-Olu begins distribution of N750m to 15,000 Lagos traders

The Lagos State Government says it has concluded plans to distribute a total of N750m to 15,000 traders in the state today.

The scheme is tagged ‘Lagos Market Trader Money.’

According to the Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, each beneficiary will receive N50,000 from the state government.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu first disclosed this last December during the inauguration of the food Agro-hub located in Mushin, Idi-Oro area of Lagos. The gesture was to support the trader’s businesses, the governor said.

He said the Trader Money Initiative was part of his promise to traders in the state, and had said then that it would commence before the end of the year 2023.

According to the governor, 200 traders will be selected from each local government area of the state to ensure that the N750 million to be distributed cuts across all the traders, irrespective of their location.

During a sensitisation programme on hygiene for 500 market men and women from Ikeja and Oshodi Local Government Areas last Saturday at the Lagos Fresh Food Hub, Idi-Oro, Mushin, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Abisola Olusanya, said the flag-off exercise was an opportunity for the governor to demonstrate his love for the market men and women on Valentine’s Day.
