Sanwo-Olu mourns tragic loss of Wigwe, Ogunbanjo, others

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has expressed grief over the tragic loss of the Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings, Dr. Herbert Wigwe; and the former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group Plc, Mr. Abimbola Ogunbanjo, in a devastating helicopter crash.

Wigwe, his wife Doreen and son Chizi were also confirmed dead in the helicopter crash in California near the Nevada border, in the United States of America. The incident happened last Friday.

Governor Sanwo-Olu described the late Wigwe as his friend, brother and adviser. He also referred to him as the king of visionary and disruptive ideas.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of my dear brother and friend. Dr. Herbert was not just a brother and visionary leader but one of the brightest minds in Africa. His impact on our nation and beyond will be remembered forever. My heart mourns.

“Herbert’s contributions to Banking and the financial sector in Africa were unparalleled. He was an unapologetic believer in the Nigerian solution. His dedication and passion for progress inspired us all. Today, we mourn not just a leader but a true friend and brother. Lagos and Nigeria have lost a remarkable soul. Rest in peace, my brother.”

The governor also described the late Ogunbanjo, a great business leader and legal luminary who contributed significantly to the development of the Capital Markets and Corporate law in Nigeria. “May his soul rest in peace,” he prayed.

Governor Sanwo-Olu extends heartfelt condolences to the families of Dr. Herbert Wigwe and Abimbola Ogunbanjo.

He prayed for strength and grace for the bereaved families during this difficult period.
