School owner’s daughter bites, claws five-year-old pupil

In a rare case of physical assault, Tunmise, a daughter of the proprietress of a private school located at Lawanson Road, Itire in Lagos state, has allegedly assaulted a five-year-old Nursery II pupil in the school with her teeth and fingernails.

The member of public who brought the matter to the attention of the Advocates for Children and Vulnerable Persons Network (ACVPN) revealed that it was not the first time that Tunmise, who is a teacher in the school, would be abusing pupils.

She was said to have a history of abusing pupils using her teeth and fingernails, while the five-year-old victim was said to be in pain as a result of the torture she suffered in the hands of Tunmise.

There were insinuations that the victim’s mother might be owing the school, which was why she could not make a formal report.

Another individual also alleged that the proprietress of the school had flogged one of the pupils with a wood that had nail on it, which kept the pupil away from school for almost two weeks.

Representatives of ACVPN, Afeez Aina, who visited the school on a fact-finding mission, was told that Tunmise was dismissed immediately after the incident.

Aina also reached out to the victim’s mother, who claimed that the case had been settled.

While ACVPN wondered why the matter had not reached the table of the appropriate authorities, it noted that ACVPN had commenced investigation into the case, as the victim’s father, identified as Owolabi, is said to have threatened to have Aina arrested for insisting on following the case to a logical conclusion.

Owolabi is quoted to have said that his family and the school had settled the matter amicably.
