Six students of the Government Secondary School, Fadan Chawai, taking the Junior WAEC drowned on Tuesday in the Mbang River in Kaduna State while coming back from sitting the papers of the day.
The incident happened around 5.30pm in Ribang (Mbang) village in Kauru Local Government Area of the state.
The victims were identified as Manasseh Monday (16), Musa John (16), Pius David (15), Monday Ayuba (16), David Danlami (19), and Yahuza Audu (16).
The National Public Relations Officer of Ribang Development Association, Pastor Simon Ishaku, on Wednesday said three bodies have been recovered and buried.
He explained that, as of now, there are still three missing as the local divers have not been able to recover their bodies from the river.
“The Mbang River is a death trap. Before anybody can access any school or hospital, we usually travel about eight kilometres.
“We call on the Federal Government, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani, Sen. Sunday Katung and our House of Representative member to, as a matter of urgency, kindly assist us with school, hospital, access road and bridge in order to bring succour to our community,” Ishaku said.
