Someone asked ‘Where was Jesus?’ -House of David pastor narrates mocking after fire incident

The Senior Pastor of the House of David, Olusola Osunmakinde, in a video on Instagram has described the Wednesday fire incident that razed the church building as “a painful experience.”

Osunmakinde also revealed that a passerby made fun of him by inquiring, “Where was Jesus when this happened?”

Detailing the extent of the fire incident, the pastor said the church’s air conditioners, chairs, and other equipment were all burnt.

He said, “As we know, ‘Mercy Conference’ starts today, but something happened that I just want to put a message out there to people.

“I came here this morning, everybody was setting up, everything was going fine. All of a sudden, we started hearing that there was fire and something up there on the roof of the church.

“I know there will be reactions, and people will say that and that, but that is none of my concern now.

“The most important thing is this, we thank God no life was lost and we thank God for everything. We are not too discouraged but we believe in God that we will still go on with the conference.

“It is a painful experience, no doubt, even someone walked into the compound mocking, saying, ‘Where is Jesus when this happened?’

“We don’t owe people an answer; all we believe is that all things work together. We will not back out because of this but by the grace of God, all things work together for good.”

The popular Lagos Church, located at Adeniji Jones in Ikeja, was on Wednesday razed by fire just a few hours to its annual conference.
The multi-million auditorium of the church, housing thousands of worshippers, was totally burned down, leaving nothing to salvage.
Reacting to the development, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services said the fire emanated from the ceiling of the church and later spread to the auditorium.
The church had planned to hold its Mercy Conference from January 31, 2024, through February 4, 2024, with many Pentecostal preachers like Joshua Selman, Isaac Oyedepo, Godman Akinlabi, and Yemi Davids billed to minister during the meeting.
Osunmakinde said the conference will proceed as scheduled.
The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, also confirmed the incident.
The agency said on its X [formerly Twitter] handle that responders successfully extinguished the fire, which originated at the rear end of the church.
NEMA added that the fire went unnoticed by church workers but was brought to their attention by passersby.
“Thankfully, no injuries or casualties were reported. The church, leased and insured, had organised a five-day crusade starting this evening and ending on February 4, 2024,” it said.
