Suspected terrorist Bochu Abacha surrenders

A notorious Boko Haram terrorist, Bochu Abacha, has reportedly surrendered to troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) stationed in Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State.

This is contained in a statement released by the Information Officer of the MNJTF, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba.

Osoba narrates that Bochu Abacha admitted to being a prominent figure in the various Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) operations along the Mongunu–Baga axis of Borno State.

The statement added that Bochu’s surrender marks a notable success in ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the Lake Chad region.

Bochu allegedly revealed that he decided to surrender due to the intensified military operations conducted by the MNJTF, alongside a diminishing interest in continuing his involvement with the terrorist group. He escaped from a Boko Haram camp in Mussaram, bringing with him an AK-47 rifle and other items.

Following his surrender, authorities reportedly recovered several items from Bochu, including:

– One AK-47 rifle with a magazine containing 11 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition
– A mobile phone
– An Airtel SIM card
– The sum of ₦32,500

In a related development, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi reported that troops deployed in Gubio, in collaboration with intelligence operatives, successfully ambushed a group of Boko Haram terrorists transporting a substantial logistics supply in three Toyota vehicles.

Based on an intelligence report regarding the terrorists’ crossing point, the troops set up an ambush and engaged in a fierce gun battle.

During the confrontation, one terrorist was killed while others fled into the nearby forest due to the superior firepower of the troops. The ambush resulted in the recovery of:

– Three Toyota vehicles loaded with assorted foodstuffs and other supplies
– The sum of ₦2,000

The surrender of Bochu Abacha and the successful ambush on Boko Haram logistics highlight the ongoing efforts of the MNJTF in combating terrorism in the Lake Chad region.
