Tailor, welder jailed for assault, car battery theft respectively

A Jos Magistrates’ Court on Friday sentenced a 32-year-old tailor, Samaila Aminu to nine-month imprisonment for assault and willful damage.

The Magistrate, Mr. Shawomi Bokkos, summarily tried and sentenced the defendant after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The magistrate, however, gave the convict an option of N20,000 fine.

The magistrate also ordered the convict to pay N40,000 as compensation to the complainant.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, told the court that the case was reported on Feb. 5, at the “C” Police Station, Jos by one Sulaiman Aminu, the complainant.

The prosecutor alleged that the convict attacked a tricycle rider and broke his tricycle windscreen without provocation.

The offence, according to him, is punishable under the Plateau state Penal Code Law.

In a related development, a Jos Magistrates’ Court, on Friday, sentenced a 43-year old welder, Solomon John, to three-month imprisonment for stealing car battery.

The Magistrate, Mr. Shawomi Bokkos, summarily sentenced the defendant after he pleaded guilty to theft.
Bokkos gave the convict an option of N20,000 fine.

The magistrate said the punishment would serve as a deterrence to other would-be offenders.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat, had told the court that the case was reported on March 27, at the Laranto Police Station, Jos, by one Victor Ayuba, the complainant.

The offence, according to him, is punishable under the Plateau State Penal Code Law. (NAN)
