Mother of a child with low birth weight, Mrs. Aminat Hamzat, has expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government for providing quality healthcare services at the Maternal and Child Centre (MCC), Epe.
Aminat, a resident of Cotonou, Benin Republic, also appreciated the medical team and the entire management of the hospital for their unwavering support during and after her delivery.
Aminat, who had travelled to Epe to visit her mother, suddenly went into labour far ahead of her delivery date.
However, she was rushed to Epe MCC where she gave birth to twin babies at 30 weeks, five days gestational stage. She lost one of the babies after delivery.
She narrated her experience, “After losing one of the babies, the nurses and doctors have been very supportive because they tried their best to ensure the second baby survives. He weighed 1.3kg at birth then dropped drastically to 0.9kg which was underweight so they had to admit us to monitor and give him intensive care.”
“It has not been an easy task being a mother to a premature baby but with the help of the nurses as well as the quality equipment procured by the government for the facility, the situation was not as bad as it would have been. Although I couldn’t carry my baby at birth because he was too small, I’m very happy I have one alive”, the mother of the newborn added.
Aminat also advised expectant mothers to register at any MCC close to them to benefit from what the Lagos State government has provided in all the Maternal and Child Centres across the State.
