Tobi Amusan: CAS set to hear AIU’s appeal

The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) is set to commence the hearing of appeal filed by World Athletics, via the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).

This appeal challenges the initial decision of the disciplinary tribunal in the case of World Athletics versus Tobi Amusan, the Nigerian track sensation and 100m hurdles World Record holder.

Initiated by the AIU on September 15, 2023, the appeal follows the ruling of the World Athletics’ Disciplinary Tribunal, which had previously cleared Amusan of any violation related to missed anti-doping tests that led to her initial suspension.

Amusan, renowned for her exceptional skills in the Women’s 100m hurdles, made history by setting a world record at the World Championship in Eugene, Oregon, in July 2022. Her outstanding time of 12.12 seconds in the semi-final left the athletic community in awe.

Despite having achieved an even faster time of 12.05 seconds and winning gold in the final, this accomplishment didn’t officially make it into the record books due to an excessive backwind according to sports officials.
