Toronto police nab woman vowing to poison Yoruba, Benin people

The Toronto Police Service has announced the arrest of Amaka Patience Sonnberger, who is suspected of peddling hate-motivated threats against Yoruba and Benin ethnic nationalities.

Yoruba are found in southwest Nigeria, while people of Benin origin are drawn from Edo State, both in Nigeria.

According to the authorities, on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 Toronto Police received a call for a threatening incident, whereby it was alleged that the accused, 40-year-old Amaka Sonnberger, posted online content on or about August 25, 2024 threatening death to specific members of the Nigerian community.

On Sunday, September 1, 2024, Toronto Police arrested Amaka Sonnberger of Toronto. She has since been charged with uttering threats.

She appeared at the Ontario Court of Justice, 2201 Finch Avenue West on Monday, September 2nd, 2024, at 10:00am in courtroom 107. The Toronto Police Service said the incident “is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offence.”

If convicted, Sonnberger could face significant legal consequence. She boasts that she would not be repatriated to Nigeria, her country of origin.

Amaka hails from south east Nigeria and she is Igbo by ethnicity. Unconfirmed reports say she is married to a German.
