Two brothers remanded over alleged unlawful possession of firearms

A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday, ordered the remand of two brothers in a correctional facility for alleged unlawful possession of firearms and criminal conspiracy.

The pleas of the defendants, Saminu Garba, 23 and Sani Garba, 26, were not taken.

The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, said the defendants should be remanded pending the advice of the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

He adjourned the case until Feb. 6, for hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, told the court that the defendants were arrested along Jaji Road Kaduna, by operatives of FIB- IRT Kaduna State on Jan. 2.

According to Leo, the defendants were arrested with one locally fabricated automatic pistol, one dane gun, eight cutlasses, knives and daggers.

The prosecutor stated that when the defendants were arrested they could not give satisfactory explanation of the items found with them.

The offence, Leo said, contravened the robbery and firearms(special provision) Act RII LFN, 2004.(NAN)
