The Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, says the institution revived research and teaching with N200 million Senate Research Grant between 2023 and 2024.
Egbewole stated this on Monday in Ilorin during the first day of the 39th Convocation Ceremony of the university.
The VC, in his opening address entitled: “No Longer Where We Are”, stated that the institution had 20 patents, which was the most among varsities, as announced by Federal Ministry of Science and Technology.
According to him, a special focus is devoted to research, while an additional N50 million is also allocated to SRG Special Intervention.
“We have also instituted compensation for researchers who published their works in high impact journals in addition to sustaining the Researcher of the Year Award.
“Two new awards have been instituted this year including the Best Faculty of the Year and Quality Assurance Award.
“We have also provided data at critical times to ease the work of staff, provided discount bus services to staff and students.
“Our staff are also encouraged with a 25 per cent rebate on school charges for biological children. In our 103 programmes, scholarship is assured yearly for the best students.
“We have 100 per cent accreditation of our programmes as presented to National Universities Commission (NUC) and professional bodies,” he said.
Egbewole stated that about 12,042 graduands at the undergraduate level, and 1,875 at the post graduate level would recieve their certificates at the ceremony.
“We have 256 First Class; 3,842 Second Class (Upper Division); 6,178 Second Class and others,” he said. (NAN)
