VIDEO: Fans divided as Rema storms off stage in Atlanta

Nigerian Afrobeats act, Divine Ikubor, popularly known as Rema, has gotten the internet reacting to his demeanor at his latest show in Atlanta.

News circulating all over social media says the “Dumebi” crooner walked off the stage, complaining that the stage wasn’t up to standard.

Viral videos trending online show him coming on stage, relating with the audience for a bit and then walking off after registering his disappointment at the poor standard of the venue.

In his rant, he emphasized that Afrobeats as a brand had come a long way and won’t tolerate any disrespect.

“We don’t move like this, Afrobeats is way too big to move like this, I don’t take rubbish. I respect my fans. I don’t move like this, alright?”

The 23-year-old star who is currently on tour promised his fans a compensation performance to make up for their trouble, before walking off the stage.

“I am going to reschedule this show. They have disrespected me and disrespected Afrobeats by treating you guys like this,” he said.

His action has split his fan base, though, with a faction agreeing with his move, while others felt that his action was unbecoming.

An X user with the handle @abiodun221_s tweeted: “Who sing calm down no dey calm down again, the voice of Afrobeats right. Make everybody just dey cruise, at least perform for your fans and make the complaints known.”

Another user who seems to be in agreement with him @Volcxno also tweeted: “The old cats will never do this. I remember a show at Eko hotels some years ago where Davido and Wiz performed. The sound was very bad that Wiz had to roast them; he said this sound na nonsense sound o. But both Davido and Wiz found a way to overcome it and it was perfect.”

However, others like @CJmooreplug seem to be in agreement with Rema’s move, he tweeted: “It’s called standard, know your standard. Rema has made me love him more. For the singular act of true love and dedication for the culture and game.”
