VIDEO: Fire outbreak at Dangote effluent treatment plant in Lagos

There has been a fire outbreak at a section of Dangote Refinery in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos State, on Wednesday [today].

In a trending video, a cloud of thick smoke billowed into the sky from the facility.

Speaking on the issue, the Group Chief Branding & Communications Officer, Dangote Industries Limited, Anthony Chiejina, confirmed the fire incident, adding that the company has contained.

He described it as “minor fire at the effluent treatment plant,” adding that it broke out in the early hours of today.

Chiejina stated, “We have swiftly contained a minor fire incident at our effluent treatment plant (ETP), today Wednesday 26th of June.

“There is no cause for alarm as the refinery is operating and there is no recorded injury or body harm to all our staff on duty.”

Emergency services responded swiftly to contain the incident, and, according to initial reports, no injuries have been sustained.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and investigations are underway to determine the extent of the damage and what led to the incident.
