Nollywood actress Victoria Inyama has shared startling details about her past marriage, alleging that her ex-husband, Godwin Okrim, still threatens to kill her if he could.
She also alleged that he used to bring his girlfriend home while they were still married.
Iyama split from her ex-husband Godwin Okrim five years ago.
In a candid interview with Chude Jideonwo, Inyama recounted alleged instances where her ex-husband would enter their home with another woman.
When asked by Chude if her husband was bringing his girlfriends home, she responded, “Oh, wow, yes. There was even one instance where the girl was telling me what to cook. I should not be cooking meat; I should be cooking fish. Fish is healthier. I was just looking at this girl, and they were ‘working together.’”
Inyama also disclosed that she faced physical, psychological, and mental abuse during the marriage. Recalling the first time her husband hit her, she said she expressed shock and disbelief.
“I don’t regret abandoning my acting career for my marriage because I have three beautiful children,” said Inyama, highlighting the sacrifices she made for her family.
According to an online platform, Inyama relocated to the United Kingdom after her wedding, but her troubles were just beginning.
In an interview with a UK-based mental health advocate Malin Anderson, Inyama revealed how Godwin Okrim allegedly abused her endlessly and threatened to kill her if she failed to do his bidding.
The actress also recalled getting arrested by her ex-husband while trying to protect herself and her three kids.
She added that even when she opted for divorce, her ex-husband turned it down and also insisted that she was his property.
“I was scared because he would tell me,‘I know a lot of people in prison, my clients that owe me a lot of favour because they didn’t do long term and I’ll just waste you and nothing is going to happen.’
“‘At that point, I just told him that I was ready to die, I’m not coming back to you,’ and he said, ‘Alright, we will see about that.’
“One day, I said, ‘Can we just go for a divorce?’ and he said, ‘You can’t divorce me, I own you, you are my property. Divorce me?
“I said, ‘You’ve moved on, you are living with another woman in your house;’ he said, ‘So? You are not in my house any more, there has to be a woman in my house,’ and I requested a divorce.
”He went on to say, ‘First of all, you can’t divorce me and, second of all, which man is going to want a woman with three kids? Oh, you think it’s because you’ve gone to the university that you think you are now intelligent? You are not intelligent.
“I was arrested in front of my kids and locked up for 12 hours. That was my most humiliating moment in life,” Iyama alleged.
She added that besides abusing her, he also abused their kids as he once fed their son a food he was allergic to and also dislocated the arms of their daughter.
Despite the challenges, she says she remains resilient and determined.
“He still threatens to kill me or put me in prison to date. I always tell myself, ‘Where did I go wrong? What did I do?’ But then, they can bring the right package to the wrong address and there is nothing you can do about it,” she enthused.
