VIDEO: Man sets certificates on fire after 13 years of fruitless job search

Frustrated by his inability to get a job 13 years after graduating from a university in Nigeria, Olutimain Ilenre has set fire to his academic achievements, including a Bachelor of Arts certificate, secondary school certificate, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate, and UTME certificate.

In a video posted on social media, Ilenre, a graduate of History and International Studies from Ajayi Crowther University, declared that his hard-earned certificates had become nothing more than pieces of paper, rendered utterly useless in the face of challenging economic situation in the country.

“Getting a certificate in Nigeria is a waste of time. Even when travelling out of the country, the certificates are rendered useless. I graduated in 2010 and did my NYSC in 2010/2011; till today, I haven’t used these certificates to get a job,” he lamented, painting a grim picture of the harsh truth many graduates face.

As the flames consumed his academic records, he emphasized the futility of the traditional educational path, advocating for a paradigm shift in society’s approach to education.
