The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Mumbai’s Bandra Unit has apprehended a Nigerian drug suspect. They also seized cocaine valued at approximately Rs 1.25 crore, according to officials.
The ANC Bandra Unit conducted a special operation on January 8, targeting drug traffickers in an area of Mumbai, leading to the arrest of a Nigerian national allegedly found in possession of 125 grams of cocaine near Andheri East.
The drug’s street value is put at N137,535,004.25 or $150,393.62.
Sharing a video on their X account on Tuesday [today], Asian News International said, “Maharashtra Bandra Unit of the Anti Narcotics Cell of the Mumbai Crime Branch arrested a Nigerian from the Andheri area and seized 125 grams of cocaine drugs from him.
“The recovered drugs were worth Rs 1 crore 25 lakh [$150,393.62.] in the international market. The police registered a case under the NDPS Act, arrested him, and produced him in the court, where he was sent to police custody till January 12.“
The detained individual, a 31-year-old male, allegedly confessed during interrogation that he had been involved in selling cocaine in both Mumbai city and its suburban areas.
Authorities have initiated a comprehensive investigation to uncover additional crucial members involved in the drug trade.
ANC officials reported that their day-night operations to combat drug trafficking in society have resulted in the apprehension of several interstate drug trafficking syndicates, contributing to the dismantling of multiple networks in Mumbai.
ANC-Mumbai said it successfully confiscated contraband with a total value exceeding Rupees 56 Crore [$6,737,567.20].
Additionally, they have arrested 231 key drug peddlers, including 17 Nigerians and two Tanzanians.
