Hundreds of South East indigenes visiting home for Christmas and New Year celebrations were stranded for several hours at military checkpoints on Enugu-Opi road as soldiers reportedly blocked the only access road extorting travellers.
A video clip our Correspondent obtained on Wednesday evening, shows hundreds of vehicles carrying travellers to and from Abuja and other parts of the Northern region trapped at the checkpoint located at the hill area of the Ugwuogo – Opi Nsukka road.
The trapped travellers, were overheard lamenting the subjugation and inhumane treatment Nigeria security agencies especially the military and police subjects Igbo people to.
A write up accompanying the video clip, which had gone viral on various social media platforms in Enugu, read, “Look at the mayhem soldiers are causing at Opi junction in Enugu State.
“All they know how to do is to extort money from innocent Nigerians whilst terrorists dance samba in Sambisa forest.”
A voice in the video was overheard saying “please somebody should call the 82 Division to tell the soldiers to allow people to go to their destinations. We are coming from the North and there’s nowhere passengers were subjected to this kind of horror and humiliation.
“Why is it only in the South East that you see this kind of militarization? Are we less Nigerians?”
