Nollywood actor Jim Iyke has explained the reasons why his marriage to his wife, a Russian, crashed.
In a candid interview with media personality Toke Makinwa, Iyke said the problem had to do with “delayed grief” after his mother’s demise.
In the video which started trending on Saturday [today], Iyke said his inability to properly mourn his mother’s death, as well as his inability to reciprocate his wife’s love at that moment in his life, all combined to do his marriage in.
He said that being the only male child in a culture where being macho is non-negotiable, even at the expense of emotional turmoil, he had to step into the role of the strong male figure in his family.
Ironically, he said that his widowed dad who should have provided a shoulder to lean on was also devastated emotionally.
He said in part, ”I was dealing with two parallels that I could not contain. I just lost my mom, and I was in a place where I didn’t know how to navigate the motions the woman was giving me.
“I just needed somebody. She didn’t need me that way. She needed to love me, and I would love her back, and I couldn’t reciprocate. I turned all my attention on our child, and she didn’t know how to deal with it.
“I didn’t grieve properly. I was the second head of the family; my father had fallen apart emotionally, and I had only sisters.”
