In a decisive move on Saturday, December 16, Dr. Michael Tidi, Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, successfully quelled the youth leadership crisis that had threatened to divide chiefs and elders in Okere-Urhobo Kingdom.
The resolution unfolded during a rescheduled security meeting at the Warri South Council Lodge in GRA Warri. Dr. Tidi, accompanied by officials from Warri South Council, key figures from the Police, DSS, and Army, along with leaders from major families in Okere-Urhobo Kingdom, played a pivotal role.
Following deliberations involving leaders and security chiefs, the Warri South Chief Security Officer strategically allocated positions to the five major families within Okere-Urhobo Kingdom. Notably, the Oki family was tasked with producing the next Chairman of Okere-Urhobo youth leadership, while the Olodi family was entrusted with nominating the Vice Chairman. The Secretary position went to the Makro family.
Other key executive positions and their respective family allocations included: PRO to the Itifo family, Financial Secretary to Ighogbadu family, Treasurer to Olodi family, Assistant Secretary to Itifo family, Chief Whip to Oki family, Cultural Officer to Olodi family, Organizing Secretary to Makro family, Auditor to Ighogbadu family, and Sanitary Officer to Ighogbadu family.
Dr. Tidi directed that these positions be filled by Monday, December 18, with the inauguration of the incoming youth leadership scheduled for the following Tuesday. Additionally, he mandated leaders of Okere-Urhobo Kingdom to submit an amended constitution for the regulation of youth activities to the office of the Warri South Chairman no later than January 19, 2024.
This development follows the disbandment of all youth organizations/development movements in Okere-Urhobo Kingdom by the Executive Council of Warri South Local Government on Tuesday, December 5, citing security concerns.
