We made a good choice not voting you, voters tell Ugandan politician who withdrew donated ambulance after losing election

The Ugandan State Minister of Finance for Investment and Privatization, Hon Anite Evelyn, caused a stir on X (formerly Twitter) as she gives a million-and-one reasons why her decision to recall an ambulance she donated to a constituency was unquestionable.

Anite, who loves to quote the Bible at every turn, said she withdrew the ambulance she donated to the people after she suffered an electoral loss in the District of Koboko in 2021.

She was later appointed as state minister of finance.

Trouble came when Africa Facts Zone, via its verified X handle @AfricaFactsZone tweeted: “Ugandan Politician, Evelyn Anite took back an ambulance she donated to her district, after losing an election in 2021.”

The controversial ambulance

One A. J SSESANGA with X handle @AshyMagnificent tried to fault the claim: “Fake news. my best friend @HonAniteEvelyn can not do that. She has done more for her region than most of politicians from that region.”

Anite promptly responded: “My dear, I actually did it, and I am very proud of my action. Once they said go away, I packed all my belongings and left them. now I hear people crying as if I was the first one to call it quites (sic). The Bible says the wage of sin is death.”

The minister’s unusual admission resulted in a cascade of responses that practically nailed her action. See some of the responses:

Namer @cybertrove states: “Ethical Concerns: It can be seen as an opportunistic move, using charitable contributions for personal gain or political leverage. It may damage one’s reputation and trust within the community or among donors. It raises questions about the sincerity of the initial donation and commitment to the cause.”

Udo eji eke ego @Chysohm: They made a good choice not voting you.

IamEri’Oluwa🇿🇦🇳🇬🇳🇦 IamEriOluwa: “Its quite unfortunate that she had to do that. It explains why she lost the election in the first place. People saw beyond the gift. They saw her wicked heart. When giving a gift. One should always understand it doesn’t mean the recipient will always do as you would want. Just do you anyways.”

Ruchathi Kims @kimsmann: “She has just placed sanctions and retrieved her support …that is what the west do when we dont toe to their demand…she is well trained by them.”
