The Delta State Government has refuted the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs’ claim that it rehabilitated the Bedesiegha bridge along Bomadi Road.
During a press briefing at the project site, State Commissioner for Works Highways and Urban Roads, Reuben Izeze, alongside the Commissioner for Works (Rural and Riverine Roads) Mr. Charles Aniagwu, and other officials, clarified that the project was executed by the Delta State Government through the Niger Construction Limited (NIGERCAT).
Emphasizing the completion of the bridge in December 2023, officials denounced attempts by certain entities to claim credit for the work.
They underscored the importance of diligent supervision and transparency to combat corruption in government projects.
“The bridge was completed and opened to the general public on December 20, 2023 and because the contractor and our engineers had gone on break, these persons came with the flag of the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs and placed them on both ends of the bridge.
“By their action they made it seem as if it was the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs that was responsible for the rehabilitation of the bridge, but that is actually not the case,” Izeze said.
The ministry has not said anything about the issue, but its flag was placed at the bridge.
