Wearing tight pants can harm vagina -Gynaecologist

Looking stylish is important – sometimes you have a pair of skinny jeans or leggings that you just don’t want to part with! But did you know that those favorite pants of yours can actually be causing you to feel pain around your vulva?

This vaginal discomfort is something that many women experience, and it can be worsened due to the clothing that you regularly wear.

If you regularly remove hair in the vagina area, skip out on wearing tight clothing immediately after shaving

Why tight clothes cause vaginal discomfort
If you have a larger vulvular area, including the labia minora, labia majora, or both, wearing tight clothing can pose a problem. Many times, the tight clothing can cause discomfort, pain, and even tingling and numbness in the vaginal area. This is a condition known as vulvodynia, which causes chronic pain in the area. But why does this happen?

It has been found that wearing tight pants for four days a week (on average) is linked to chronic pain in the vaginal area. It can also cause bacterial vaginal infections and yeast infections (which are two more things that you do not want to deal with). The discomfort can present as pain, burning, stinging, and tingling, and it can be mild or debilitatingly severe.

Shaving the intimate area can also cause irritation, ingrown hair, and pain, especially when coupled with tight clothing.

How to avoid vulvodynia
Avoiding vulvodynia can be as simple as giving those skinny jeans or tight leggings a rest, but that might not always be ideal. Try limiting the amount of time you spend wearing these pieces of apparel each day, or only wear them once or twice per week.

If you regularly remove hair in the area, skip out on wearing tight clothing immediately after shaving, and opt for clothing that will allow your vaginal area to breathe.

How can a vaginoplasty help?
Another option for vulvodynia is a vaginoplasty. A vaginoplasty can help by tightening the vaginal canal, but when this procedure is done alongside other procedures, such as a labiaplasty, it can drastically reduce the amount of inflammation and pain experienced by altering the size and shape of the vulva. This helps by giving the vulva a better chance to breathe.
