Award-winning Nollywood actress and producer, Funke Akindele, has disclosed that her mother taught her early in life that without failure, there can’t be success.
Akindele has been trending for her movie titled ‘Tribe of Judah’ that shattered box office records.
The movie, released on December 15, 2023, made history as the first Nollywood film to surpass N1 billion at the box office. This prodigious feat places Akindele as the highest-grossing Nollywood director of all time.
Sharing her thoughts in an interview with Wazobia FM in Lagos, she talked about her marital status, saying that she doesn’t consider herself a failure despite being divorced twice.
It would be recalled that in 2012, Akindele married Adeola Kehinde Oloyede, but they divorced a year later, citing irreconcilable differences.
Again, in 2016, she married Nigerian rapper Abdulrasheed Bello, popularly known as JJC Skillz. They divorced after six years, though Akindele bore him twins.
Despite being divorced twice, Akindele maintained that she doesn’t consider that a failure.
Speaking further during the interview, Akindele said, “If you ask me to tell you one failure, I do not see it as a failure. In my personal life, marriage, I just take it as it comes because my mental health is very important. My career is very important as well.
“My mother taught me early in life that without failure, there can’t be success. So, I have to make an impact. I have to empower a lot of people. I have to inspire young people. I also have to stay strong for my children and siblings.”
While she admitted that there are times she breaks down and weeps, she recognises her purpose for living and, as such, moves on with her head up.
“Yes, I cry; I break down, but after crying, I look in the mirror and say to myself, ‘keep moving,’” because I know I have a purpose for living, so my head is up,” she said.
