When to say goodbye to your braids

Braids are a great way to protect your hair and look stylish. But sometimes, it’s important to know when it’s time to take them out. Here are four easy-to-spot signs that your braids might need to go.

Headaches that won’t go away
If you’re getting headaches that just won’t stop, even with painkillers, your braids might be too tight. When braids pull on your scalp for too long, it can hurt. If your head feels sore or you wince when you touch your hair, it might be time to let your hair loose.

Really itchy scalp
When your scalp is super itchy, it’s like your hair is crying out for help. This could happen because of leftover hair products, not washing well enough, or your scalp needing some fresh air. If you’re always wanting to scratch your head, it’s probably time to take those braids out.

Bad smell
Let’s be honest – if your hair smells bad, it’s definitely time for a wash. When braids are in too long, sweat and moisture can get trapped. This can make your hair smell funky. If you notice a strong, not-so-nice smell coming from your hair, it’s time to say goodbye to the braids.

What to do when it’s time to let go
When you see these signs, it’s best to take your braids out. After you do:
• Give your hair a good, gentle wash
• Use a deep conditioning treatment
• Let your hair rest for a bit before trying a new style

Remember, braids are meant to help your hair, not hurt it. It’s okay to let them go when they start causing problems. Listen to what your body (and nose!) is telling you. Your hair will thank you for it.

By paying attention to these signs, you can keep your hair healthy and still enjoy wearing braids. Just remember to give your hair breaks now and then. This way, you’ll always look great and feel comfortable too!
